Moving to Newmarket from California, Adam & Susie instantly felt a draw to the downtown and to the Stone Church. They met many wonderful people through "Friends of the Stone Church," an eclectic group of individuals trying to save the Church from closing forever. Through this group, they became interested in becoming stewards of this historic property. They have tried to create an atmosphere that is friendly to music lovers, families, and those that just love a great beer (such as our First in the Nation IPA, better known as #FITN!) They hope to continue down this path. If you ever see them up at the Church with their two girls, they encourage you to feel free to say hi and introduce yourself!
Abby has been with The Stone Church since 2009. She adores Cajun & Zydeco music, and would live in New Orleans and see live music every night if she could. Her favorite food is deep-fried tofu, her favorite drink is either coffee or pinot noir from the Willamette Valley in Oregon. She likes hanging out with her twin sister, playing with her shiba inu named Kobashi, and loves fiction, reading up on psychology and neuroscience, taking pilates and barre classes, and bartending and providing psychotherapy to her customers. She met her husband during an open mic at The Stone Church, and encourages everyone to come into the venue to try to make a love connection! One of her most beloved parts of her job is helping people plan events and parties at the Church.
Christian came to The Stone Church in 2010. He hails from New York, and learned how to bartend at the famed Dave and Buster's. His favorite bands are Queen, Foo Fighters, and Muse. Locally, he goes crazy for Rustic Overtones. His favorite food is chicken parmesan with mashed potatoes (don't judge!), and his favorite drinks are Arizona raspberry iced tea, Hendricks & St Germain with soda water, and Ballast Point Pineapple Sculpin IPA (which is saying a lot, since he samples so many beers for his job!) When he isn't taking care of his young son or cheering on the Yankees, he is playing golf or video games, or watching wrestling and generally nerding-out.
Greg has been doing sound engineering professionally for the past 7 years, and has been a part of The Stone Church for almost as long. A lot of his instincts as a sound engineer come from his 21 years of performing music. His primary instrument is bass guitar and upright bass, but he plays guitar, piano, drums, and electronic instruments as well. His favorite genres of music include film scores, jazz, ethereal folk, world, hip hop, R&B, prog rock, experimental electronica, and classical. He'll be your friend for life if you feed him pretzels with spicy mustard, and give him any sort of pilsner to wash them down with! When he's not doing sound or playing music, he's watching documentaries or Antiques Roadshow, and pondering outer space.
We promoted Remy from drinking whiskey at the bar to providing top-notch security about 5 years ago. He gravitates toward R&B, hip hop, and blues music, and his favorite bands are Mos Def, The Roots, and Marvin Gaye. As a lover of Haitian and Caribbean foods, he is always bringing new flavors and ideas into our kitchen. His top interests are admittedly whiskey and women, but Remy also has his finger on the pulse of pop culture, holds a weekly podcast, and stays current with all things political and cultural.
We first met Sarah when she came to play trivia at our weekly Wednesday Pub Quiz with Geeks Who Drink. Shortly thereafter, we asked her to be our trivia hostess, and the rest is history! Sarah likes ska music, chicken nachos, and vodka sodas. She has a great sense of humor, and she loves asking questions, telling lies, and gossiping.
Jess was another "regular" who finagled her way onto our staff quite easily with her amazing work ethic and speedy disposition. It is her lovely handwriting that graces the majority of the chalkboards within the building. Although she works fulltime as a radiologic technologist, she always has time to go out and see live music locally. She likes all kinds of music, especially 90's pop, and goes gaga over The Adam Ezra Group. In her downtime, she likes watching Law & Order: SVU, drinking coffee and mimosas, and traveling. She's got killer dance moves, and has been known to get the dance floor grooving many a time.
Kayla has been bartending at The Stone Church for a couple of years, while putting herself through undergrad and graduate school at UNH for Speech Pathology. She hopes that the following information about her does not make her sound like a hipster! Currently, her favorite bands are Leon Bridges and River Whyless. Her favorite cuisine is Indian food, and her go-to cocktail is Hendricks, St Germain, grapefruit juice, and soda water. She tries to be as healthy as possible and therefore drinks lots of smoothies. She loves to read, travel, do yoga, and go on as many new adventures as possible.
Meg has been a regular fixture behind the bar at The Stone Church for years now, adding a dose of fiery sass and a feisty Irish disposition. She is obsessed with sports- specifically, most Boston teams. And she is also obsessed with cats- specifically her familiar, a black cat named Guinness. Her dream dinner is a plate of bacon, and an infinite line of mango mimosas. She is also a big wine connoisseur, but she'll drink the cheap stuff, too! She's a family girl, who loves to spend time with her folks on Cape Cod. Meg draws us all back to our roots, by favoring 90's boy bands when she gets to pick the music on Spotify!
Jamie has been coming to The Stone Church as a patron long before any us began working here! Her taste in music is very eclectic, and runs the gamut from The Grateful Dead to Pearl Jam to local bands like Marco Benevento. She loves fresh, locally-sourced foods, maple lemonade, and chai tea. When she's not mixing drinks at the Church, she's adventuring with her main squeeze Glenn, son Boston, and pup Gaia... oftentimes foraging for medicinal herbs and plants, "chefing it up" at home, wire-wrapping and making art and jewelry.
Jeremy has 13 years of working in kitchens on his resume, and his favorite food is pho, washed down with a Hendricks and soda water. His favorite acts who've played the Church include Zac Deputy, Lenny Lashley, Consider the Source, and Shmar. He loves hiking, camping, and fishing. Jeremy reminds us all to take a closer thing at the tiny and miraculous things in life. For example, he brought his rescued pet snail, Fibonacci, in to visit all of us and set an example to us to slow our lives down. He also recently executed a daring rescue of kittens who were caught in a drainage pipe.
Matt is the newest member of our team. He has been working in kitchens for nearly half of his life, and began at the age of 13. Matt loves metal music, but his favorite band is pop-punk band Alkaline Trio. His favorite food is blueberry muffins, which is a stark juxtaposition to his more culinary cooking preferences. He enjoys a well-made Dram. His interests include tattoos, travel, and martial arts, and he has a large collection of artsy selfies.
Along with cooking from our delicious menu for our patrons, Sam is also the handyman/odd jobs guy at The Stone Church- the building would likely not still be standing without his hard work! Sam loves buffalo chicken pizza, and his favorite band is Breaking Benjamin. Sam constantly impresses us with his eclectic collection of interests, including gardening, vermiculture (for those not in the know, that's the use of worms to decompose organic food waste into a nutrient-rich material), alternative energy, and tearaway pants!
